Intern Team Returns Home

Posted by 3D-Outreach on 11 December 2007

After 8 months in Xai Xai, Mozambique, the intern team arrived safely home to South Africa on 12 November. Their last week in Mozambique was filled with farewell events which testified to the influence of their presence in Xai Xai. Pastors of churches, other missionaries, and many local individuals and families came forward and shared with team members how much of an impact the team had made on their lives. It is evident that the team will be greatly missed and that they left a legacy of Christ in Xai Xai.

When they arrived back in SA, the 3D-Outreach office took them to Mountain Sanctuary Park (nature reserve) for a time of rest and relaxation. It was great fun and an opportunity for the team to reminis over memories of the past year – good and difficult moments. It was a good bridge between the rural setting of Mozambique and the busy city life of Johannesburg.

Their time away was followed by a week of re-orientation. Many people who have worked in the mission field experience a reverse culture shock when returning to their country of origin. The week of re-orientation assisted in preparing them for this transition. It also gave the team members a chance to follow up with lecturers and mentors from their training in the beginning of the year.

The Missions Internship Team concluded on 23 November with a day at Gold Reef City, a farewell dinner, a time of sharing and sad but expectant goodbyes. Though the team members have now gone their separate ways, they leave with each other a piece of their lives and have taken with them a piece of our hearts. We will miss them greatly, but look forward to seeing how God will be using them in the future.

Philippians 1:3-6 “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”.
