Unexpected Events

Sometimes plans don’t always turn out the way we expect them to…but all the while, God is in the circumstances. After a partner church’s last minute cancellation in early May, our Short-Term Department found themselves in need of a small team to go to Lesotho to work with Kereke Ea Baptist, pastored by Maruti Phoka, for a weekend outreach and to drop off some much needed clothing before winter set in. As a result, four of our staff members found themselves on the way to a small village near the Katse Dam for the weekend.

While there, we visited various houses in the village, praying for people and speaking to them about and encouraging them in Christ. The needs we encountered were very great and we saw evidence of so much poverty and sickness. One woman asked us to pray for her very sick one-month old granddaughter. We count it a privilege to be able to pray for people in desperate need of a miracle.

Saturday afternoon we were able to go on a 4×4 adventure to a village that is normally an 8-hour hike for one of the associate pastors. It was amazing to see the work he has done there to date as well as his commitment to ministering to his people.

The following day began with a time for the children where we played games, colored Bible pictures, and told stories about the love of Jesus. It is always amazing how far a little praise will go in the life of a child. The children’s ministry was followed by a Sunday morning service which finished out our time in Lesotho.

In addition to being a great time of ministry and fellowship for our staff, the weekend also afforded us as an organisation the opportunity to strengthen valuable existing relationships with local pastors and missionaries. Proverbs 16:3 says “Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established” (NAS). We have seen that first hand and discovered in Lesotho once again what a blessing it is when we let the Lord establish our plans, even if they’re not what we had originally intended!
